Zootopia 2 is currently in the works, so here’s everything we know so far.
Is There Already a Zootopia 2 Trailer?
It is likely that Zootopia 2 is still in its early development stages since the announcement for the film was just made recently. Currently, no trailer is available, but stay tuned for future updates!
When Is Zootopia 2 Release Date?
As with the trailer, Zootopia 2 has no release date yet. As part of Disney’s upcoming slate, Wish, directed by Frozen’s Chris Buck and first-time director Fawn Veeraunthom, is set for release on November 23, 2023. Zootopia 2: What’s the Story?
While there’s no clear plot for Zootopia 2, we can expect the two main protagonists, Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, to make a return – seeing they’re the faces of the movie. These two familiar faces would not be complete without appearing in the sequel. Zootopia 2 introduces Judy as a respected officer and Nick as the first Fox officer in the Zootopia Police Department. They will tackle new adventures and meet new characters as their wise guy, slapstick, but caring dynamic shines through.
Throughout Zootopia, creatures of all sizes live in harmony, from massive elephants to tiny shrews. As the first rabbit to join the police force, Judy Hopps quickly grasps the challenges of enforcing the law. Aiming to prove her capabilities, Judy eagerly seizes the opportunity to solve a perplexing case. Nick Wilde, a cunning fox, complicates her task even more by partnering with her.
Even though it is marketed as a feel-good family animation, this light-hearted film is surprisingly in-depth. Zootopia doesn’t shy away from sensitive topics like tolerance, unlike your average buddy cop movie. One of the best conspiracy thrillers to come out of the crime genre, the film is genuinely funny but revolves around an unsolved mystery within the city.
Zootopia: Who Created It?
Byron Howard pitched Disney Animation’s chief creative officer and executive producer John Lasseter six story concepts, three with animal characters. Howard created Zootopia to differentiate it from other anthropomorphic animal films where the animals inhabit either the natural or human worlds. Screenwriter Jared Bush was recruite to the project by Lasseter because of his excitement about working on a spy film, influence by his father and grandfather’s experience at the Central Intelligence Agency.
After abandoning the 1960s era, espionage, and international aspects, Howard shifted the focus to a contemporary police procedural, with Nick Wilde as the lead and Judy Hopps as his sidekick. By flipping the roles and emphasizing Hopps rather than Wilde, the filmmakers recognized the story’s potential for greater engagement.
What Characters Will We See in Zootopia 2?
Despite not knowing the casting for Zootopia 2, it would be strange to watch a Zootopia film without Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman).
The main character of Zootopia is Judy Hopps, a female rabbit who dreams of becoming a police officer. Judy, a rabbit not typically associated with law enforcement, faces constant skepticism from the people around her, from her parents to local bullies. Despite this doubt, she uses it to fuel her motivation and believes in the importance of perseverance and striving to succeed.
A charismatic and street-smart fox, Nick Wilde is a small-time con artist. Speaking his mind is one of his favorite pastimes, and he often uses his wits to escape tricky situations. As a coping mechanism after a traumatic childhood experience, Nick developed his “Sly Fox” persona. After being outsmarte by a rabbit police officer, he assists her in solving a mystery.
How About Other Zootopia Projects?
In addition to the Zootopia movies, Walt Disney Animation Studios produced an animated web television series called Zootopia+. On November 9, 2022, Howard, Bush, and Rich Moore released the series on Disney+. The series consists of six episodes.
The TV series takes place during the movie’s events and delves more into the lives of some of the film’s most fascinating characters, such as the newlywed Arctic shrew, Fru Fru (Leah Latham); Gazelle’s tiger dancers (Shakira); and Flash (Raymond S. Persi), the sloth brimming with surprises.
Zootopia 2 features Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde once again! Bob Iger, Disney CEO, announced the news during their Q1 earnings call on February 9, 2023.
There are no plot details for Zootopia 2, but we can expect it to follow Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde’s adventures as partners in law enforcement.
The film ends with Nick taking up Judy’s offer to be her partner and becoming the first fox in the ZPD.
Here’s the story. Nick and Judy Wilde were getting marrie at the Palm Hotel and Casino in Sahara Square that day, so it was a big day for their families.
